level: business
singapore-based video-generation startup pixverse has raised a total of $439 million in its series c extension round, pushing its valuation past $2 billion. the company initially closed its series c in march, led by cdh investments, with bloomberg reporting that portion at around $300 million. new investors in the extension include alibaba, lollapalooza capital, ivy capital, grand mount capital, eastern bell capital, mirae asset, bluefocus, and cloudalpha, alongside returning backers iglobe partners and ocbc’s lion x ventures.
pixverse offers multiple models: a v-series for consumer and api use, a c-series for professional film and commercial workflows, and an r-series of world models for game development and world building. its consumer product claims over 150 million registered users and 15 million monthly active users, with image-to-video generation priced at $4.80 per minute. co-founder jaden xie highlighted that the startup’s edge lies in data labeling, drawing on co-founder wang changhu’s experience building visual understanding technology for tiktok’s recommendation system at bytedance.
the company plans to use the new funding to hire more researchers and go-to-market staff, expand enterprise outreach globally, and launch a new v-series model and an updated world model this year. it already has a deal with alibaba to deploy its video-generation features. the video-generation market is increasingly competitive, with rivals including bytedance’s seedance, kling ai, midjourney, runway, and luma, as well as world model startups from yann lecun and fei-fei li.
why it matters: large funding rounds signal growing commercial demand for ai video generation and world models, which could accelerate tool development for data scientists working on synthetic media and simulation.
