level: business

nvidia introduced the rtx spark, a new pc cpu it calls a superchip, at the computex trade show. the chip delivers 1 petaflop of performance and is designed to run ai agents like openclaw or hermes agent securely. pc makers including asus, dell, hp, lenovo, microsoft surface, and msi will ship rtx spark windows pcs this fall, with acer and gigabyte following. the systems include secure sandboxes co-developed with microsoft and enough cpu, gpu, ram, and cuda software to run local large language models.

nvidia says rtx technology provides faster ai performance, better image quality, and support for ai features in over 1,000 games and apps. it targets creators and gamers, with more than 100 windows software makers signed on, including adobe, blender, and riot games. ceo jensen huang envisions a shift away from launching apps and clicking, stating that with rtx spark and windows, users ask and the pc does the work. he recently told investors that nvidia has found a new $200 billion market in cpus for ai, beyond gpus, and hinted at billions of agents using tools like pcs.

nvidia previously failed with arm-based windows devices, but this chip is more powerful. microsoft calls its rtx spark pc the surface laptop ultra, the most powerful surface laptop ever. pricing details are scarce, but these systems appear to be full windows versions of the dgx spark mini-computer sold to developers for about $4,800. they may compete with affordable mac minis used for ai agents or sit at the high end. if nvidia succeeds in bringing ai agents safely and usefully to the masses, it could be significant.

why it matters: this move could make local ai agents mainstream on pcs, shifting how users interact with computers and opening a large new market for ai hardware.
